What is the Finch Building?

The Finch Building gets its name from the Finch Manufacturing Company. This company made steel products, like manhole covers. They had been in Scranton for many years in the late 1800s.

A Home for Big Ideas

The first group to use the Finch Building was the International Correspondence School. This school started in 1894. It offered classes by mail. This was a great way for coal miners in Northeastern Pennsylvania to learn new skills.

The school grew very quickly. It soon needed more space than its old offices. The Finch Building was the perfect new home for them. Later, the Hudson Coal Company also used the building for its offices.

A Historic Landmark

In 1976, the Finch Building was added to the National Register of Historic Places. This is a special list in the United States. It includes buildings, sites, and objects that are important in history. Being on this list helps protect these places. It means they are recognized for their historical value.

Today's Finch Towers

After many years, the Finch Building was changed. It was remodeled into modern apartments. This means an old building was given a new purpose. Now, it is a home for many people. It is known as Finch Towers.
