Finders Keepers was a fun British game show made for children. It aired on BBC1 from 1981 to 1985. The show was hosted by Richard Stilgoe, who also played the catchy theme music live!
How the Game Worked
The show combined two exciting parts: a quiz and a computer game. Two teams of three students from primary school competed. Each team tried to score points by answering questions and playing a game similar to Battleships.
The Battleships Game
The main part of the game involved a computer screen. It looked like the classic game of Battleships. Teams would pick a square on the grid, like "Alpha-1" or "Bravo-5." They used the NATO phonetic alphabet to say their chosen square.
If a team scored a "hit" on the Battleships grid, they got a chance to answer a question. Answering the question correctly earned them points. The goal was to get the most points to win the game.
The Host and Music
Richard Stilgoe was the host of Finders Keepers. He was known for his musical talent. At the start of each show, he would play the show's theme song live. He used a synthesizer right there in the studio. This made the show unique and exciting for viewers.
