Finey, Missouri facts for kids
Finey is a small, quiet place in southeastern Henry County, in the U.S. state of Missouri. It's known as an unincorporated community, which means it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town does. Instead, it's part of the larger county.
Finey is located on Missouri Route Z. It's just over a mile from where Henry County meets Benton County. To the south, about a mile away, you'll find the Osage arm of the Truman Reservoir and the border with St. Clair County. The Grand River arm of the reservoir is also nearby, about two miles north of Finey.
History
Finey got its name from an early settler who named the community after his nephew, Finey West. A post office was opened in Finey in 1884. This post office helped people send and receive mail, which was very important for communities back then. It stayed open for many years before closing in 1911.
