The Finnish Ski Association (known as Finnish: Suomen Hiihtoliitto in Finnish) is a special group that helps organize and promote skiing sports in Finland. It's like the main office for skiing in the country! They are based in two cities, Helsinki and Lahti.
This association is a member of the FIS. FIS is the big international group for skiing. This means the Finnish Ski Association works with other countries to make skiing sports fair and fun. They manage many different types of skiing in Finland. These include cross-country skiing, ski jumping, Nordic skiing, and alpine skiing.
History of the Finnish Ski Association
The Finnish Ski Association was started a long time ago, in 1908. When it first began, it had a different name: Liitto Suomen hiihtourheilun edistämiseksi. This means "Association for the Promotion of Finnish Skiing."
The very first person to lead the association was Lennart Munck Af Flukila. He helped get everything started. The association changed its name to the modern "Finnish Ski Association" in 1931.
