Fiona Frances Elaine Campbell-Walter is a British model who was born in New Zealand. She was born on June 25, 1932. Fiona became very famous in the 1950s for her modeling work. Many well-known photographers, like Henry Clarke and Cecil Beaton, took her picture.
Early Life and Family
Fiona Campbell-Walter was born in Takapuna, Auckland, New Zealand. Her father was Rear Admiral Keith McNeil Campbell-Walter. He was a high-ranking officer in the Royal Navy. He also served as an aide-de-camp for King George VI and Queen Elizabeth II. Fiona's mother was Frances Henriette Campbell.
Fiona is part of a Scottish family group called Clan Campbell. Her family has a long history, including connections to the Campbell baronets of Airds. She is also the aunt of Jamie Campbell-Walter, who is a racing driver.
Modeling Career
Fiona's mother encouraged her to try modeling when she was young. As a teenager, she was photographed by Henry Clarke. She later joined the Lucie Clayton Charm Academy in London. This was a special school and agency for models.
Fiona quickly became a very popular model. She was a favorite of the famous photographer Cecil Beaton. In the 1950s, she earned a lot of money for her work. She appeared on the cover of Life Magazine in January 1953. She was also featured in Vogue magazine. Other photographers who took her pictures included John French, Elsbeth Juda, Norman Parkinson, and David Bailey. She also modeled clothes for famous fashion designers like Christian Dior, Jacques Fath, and Elsa Schiaparelli.
Personal Life
On September 17, 1956, Fiona married Baron Hans Heinrich Thyssen-Bornemisza. Their wedding took place in Castagnola, a village in Switzerland by Lake Lugano. Her husband was an art collector and came from a noble family in Hungary.
After she got married, Fiona stopped modeling. She moved to a beautiful home called Villa Favorita, which was also on Lake Lugano. Fiona and her husband had two children:
- Baroness Francesca Thyssen-Bornemisza (born June 7, 1958); she later married Archduke Karl von Habsburg.
- Baron Lorne Thyssen-Bornemisza (born June 15, 1963).
Fiona and her husband divorced on January 20, 1965. After that, she moved to London with her children.
