The First Universalist Church of Sharpsville is a very old and beautiful church building. It is located in Sharpsville, Pennsylvania, in Mercer County. This church is special because it follows the beliefs of Universalism, which teaches that everyone will eventually be saved.

The church was built a long time ago, between 1882 and 1884. It is made of fancy brick and stone. The building has a unique look called the High Victorian Gothic style. This style uses lots of decorations and tall, pointed shapes.

About the Church Building

The First Universalist Church building is about 52 feet long and 42 feet wide. Inside, it has a special layout known as the Akron plan. This design was popular for churches in the late 1800s. It usually means the main seating area is shaped like a fan, with Sunday school rooms around it. This way, different groups could meet, and then join together for a larger service.

The Parsonage House

Next to the church, there is also a house called a parsonage. A parsonage is where the church's minister or pastor used to live. This house was built in 1888. It is a two-story building with a style called Queen Anne. This style is known for its towers, turrets, and decorative porches.

Its History and Importance

The First Universalist Church of Sharpsville is considered very important because of its history and unique architecture. Because of this, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2003. This is a list of places in the United States that are worth saving because of their historical meaning.

In the year 2000, the Sharpsville Area Historical Society bought the church building. This group works to protect and restore old buildings and history in the Sharpsville area. They are currently working to fix up the church. Today, the building serves as the main office for the Historical Society.
