The Fishing Party was a small political party in Scotland. It was officially started in 2003. This party was mostly focused on one main issue: fishing.
Its creation happened because people in the fishing industry were very upset. They were angry about new rules that cut down how much fish they were allowed to catch. These rules came from the European Union's Single Fisheries Policy. The people who formed the party believed that they, as fishermen, were the best ones to represent the fishing industry.

What Was the Fishing Party's Goal?
The Fishing Party aimed to get seats in the Scottish Parliament. This would allow them to speak directly for the fishing industry. They wanted to make sure the voices of fishermen were heard when new laws were being made.
Who Led the Party?
The party was led by George Geddes. He used to be a vice chairman of the Scottish White Fish Producers' Association. Mike Park, who was the chairman at the time, also supported the party.
A former Member of Parliament, Albert McQuarrie, also supported the Fishing Party. However, he decided not to run as a candidate himself because of his age.
What Happened in the Election?
Some people thought the Fishing Party might take votes away from the Scottish National Party. This was because the Scottish National Party usually got a lot of support from people in the fishing industry.
However, the Fishing Party did not win any seats in the 2003 election. George Geddes was their only candidate. He ran in the North East Scotland area. He received 5,566 votes. This was about 2.28% of the votes in that region.
The party's best result was in the Banff and Buchan area. There, they got 2,007 votes, which was 7.7% of the votes. The Fishing Party did not have any candidates running in the smaller, single-member areas.
When Did the Party End?
The Fishing Party was officially removed from the list of political parties. This happened with the Electoral Commission on March 23, 2004. So, the party only existed for about a year.
