About the Story of Fishtales
Thomas's Research Journey
The movie follows Professor Thomas Bradley, played by Billy Zane. Thomas is a classics professor at Oxford University. He is a widower, meaning his wife has passed away. Thomas is studying ancient love spells. He is very close to a big discovery. However, he is about to lose his research money. He really needs more time to finish his work.
Thomas gets one last chance to complete his research. He travels to the beautiful Greek island of Spetses. He is invited to stay at the home of another professor, Professor Coulter. Thomas brings his 12-year-old daughter, Serena, played by Amber Savva.
Serena's Discovery
When they arrive, their new house is in okay condition. Serena quickly finds a special book. This book is about merpeople, who are half-human and half-fish. The book has an old Greek message on its cover. Serena is very supportive of her dad. She often asks him about ancient myths. But she also feels he spends too much time on his work.
New Friends and a Mermaid
While on the island, Thomas and Serena meet some new friends. They meet a fisherman named Captain Mavros, played by Alki David. Captain Mavros has a son named Dimitri, played by Felix Yanez. Dimitri quickly develops a crush on Serena.
Then, something magical happens. A mermaid named Neried, played by Kelly Brook, appears. Neried has a special ability. She can only turn into a human at night. She travels onto land to meet Thomas. At first, Thomas and Neried do not get along very well.
Love and Breakthroughs
Serena asks Neried to help her father. She wants Neried to help him translate some old relics for his research. Neried agrees to help. As Neried and Thomas work together, they speak an ancient love spell. When they say it together, they fall deeply in love.
Thomas then realizes something important. The writing on the book Serena found earlier is the key. It helps him understand all the ancient texts. This discovery allows him to continue his important research.
