The national flag of Benin is a very important symbol for the country. It was first adopted in 1959. Later, in 1975, a different government took control and changed the flag's design. But when that government ended its rule, the original flag was brought back on August 1, 1990.
The colors on the flag are special. They are known as Pan-African colours. Each color has a meaning:
- Green stands for hope for the future.
- Yellow represents the country's wealth.
- Red symbolizes the courage of the people.
