A watershed is like a big bowl that collects all the rain and snow that falls in an area. The Flat Branch watershed covers about 0.49 square miles (1.3 km2) (1.27 square kilometers) of land. This area gets a good amount of rain, about 45.4 inches (115.3 centimeters) every year. A large part of this watershed, about 70%, is covered by forests. This helps keep the water clean and provides homes for many animals.
