Flaveria linearis, also known as narrowleaf yellowtops, is a type of plant found in North America. It belongs to the sunflower family, which is a very large group of flowering plants. This plant gets its name from its long, narrow leaves and its bright yellow flowers.
Narrowleaf yellowtops grows naturally in several warm places. You can find it in Florida in the United States, as well as in Cuba, the Bahamas, and the Yucatán Peninsula in Mexico.
What Does Narrowleaf Yellowtops Look Like?
Flaveria linearis is a plant that lives for more than two years. It can grow to be quite tall, sometimes reaching up to 80 centimeters (about 31 inches) high.
Leaves and Stems
The leaves of this plant are long and thin, just like its name suggests. They can grow up to 13 centimeters (about 5 inches) long. These narrow leaves help the plant save water in its warm, sunny habitats.
Flowers and How They Grow
One narrowleaf yellowtops plant can produce many small flowers. It might have as many as 150 flower heads! These flower heads grow in a branching pattern, making the plant look full of blooms.
Each small flower head has a few tiny yellow flowers inside. There are usually 2 to 8 "disc flowers," which are the small, tube-shaped flowers in the center. Sometimes, there is also a single "ray flower," which looks like a petal sticking out from the side. All these yellow flowers make the plant very noticeable.
