Fleener is a small, unincorporated community located in Benton Township, Monroe County, in the U.S. state of Indiana. Being "unincorporated" means it's not officially a town or city with its own local government. Instead, it's part of a larger area called Benton Township.
The Story of Fleener
Fleener got its name from the Fleener family, who were early settlers in the area. One important person from this family was Isaac N. Fleener, who served as the community's postmaster.
A post office was first opened in Fleener in 1886. This was an important place for people to send and receive letters and packages. However, the post office eventually closed its doors in 1912.
