Flippin is a small, quiet community in Monroe County, Kentucky, in the United States. It's not a city with its own government, but rather a group of homes and people living together. You can find Flippin where three roads meet: Kentucky Route 249, Kentucky Route 678, and Kentucky Route 100. It's also near where two parts of Indian Creek join together.

Discovering Flippin's Past: How it Got its Name

Long ago, the area where Flippin is now was known simply as the "forks of Indian Creek." Later, it was called "Pikesville." This name was given by the Barren County Court in August 1818. However, the original Pikesville was actually a little north of the current Flippin.

Why the Name Changed to Flippin

The name "Flippin" was first used for the local post office. This was done to avoid confusion with another town called "Pikeville," which is the main town in Pike County, Kentucky. The post office in Flippin was officially set up in 1858. It helped people send and receive mail in the area for many years.

The Post Office's History

The Flippin post office served the community for over a century. However, it eventually closed its doors in 1964. Even without its own post office, Flippin remains a recognized community in Monroe County.
