Floby is a small town in Sweden. It is located in Västra Götaland County, within Falköping Municipality. In 2010, about 1,499 people lived there.
Floby's History and Growth
Floby started to grow because of the railway. In 1858, a railway line opened between Stockholm and Gothenburg. A train station was built near Floby. It was first called Sörby, but its name changed to Floby in 1912.
As the railway brought more people, a village began to form. It had businesses and services for the people living there. Floby was even its own municipality, like a small local government area, from 1923 to 1961.
In 1952, Floby became the main center for the Municipality of Vilske. Later, in 1974, Vilske joined with Falköping Municipality.
Changes Over Time
In the mid-1970s, Floby faced some challenges. The train station closed, and many local government jobs moved to Falköping. This caused the town to shrink a bit, with fewer services and people.
However, things got better in 2003. The train service returned to Floby! This made it a stop for regional trains again. Since then, the town has started to grow and improve.
