Flora Jane Duffy, born on September 30, 1987, is an amazing professional triathlete from Bermuda. She made history by winning a gold medal at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo. This was Bermuda's very first Olympic gold medal!
Flora has competed in many Olympic Games, including Beijing, London, Rio de Janeiro, and Tokyo. She also won gold medals at the Commonwealth Games in Australia in 2018 and in Birmingham in 2022.

Flora Duffy's Amazing Athletic Career
Flora Duffy has achieved many incredible things in her triathlon career. A triathlon is a race that includes swimming, cycling, and running.
World Champion Titles
Flora has won several world championships:
- She was the 2016 and 2017 ITU World Triathlon Series World Champion.
- She also won the ITU Cross Triathlon World Championship in 2015 and 2016.
- Flora has won the XTERRA World Championships six times (2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2019, and 2021).
Olympic Games Achievements
Flora has represented Bermuda in four Olympic Games:
- 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing
- 2012 Summer Olympics in London
- 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro
- 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo
At the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, she won a gold medal. This was her first Olympic medal and Bermuda's first gold medal ever! Her win also made Bermuda the smallest country to win a gold medal at the Summer Olympics. She also competed in the women's triathlon at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, France.
Commonwealth Games Success
In April 2018, Flora won the first gold medal of the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia. She won the women's sprint triathlon by a large lead. This made her Bermuda's first female Commonwealth gold medalist.
Unique Triathlon Records
Flora holds some unique records in triathlon:
- In 2016, she was the only person to win three triathlon world titles in the same year. She won the WTS, ITU Cross Triathlon, and Xterra titles.
- She is the only triathlete in WTS history to have the fastest swim, bike, and run times in the same race.
- Flora also holds the record for the biggest winning difference in both Olympic and Sprint distance races in a WTS event.
Awards and Recognition
Flora Duffy has been recognized for her contributions to sport in Bermuda. She was appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in 2018. In 2022, she was made a Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire (DBE). This is why she is often called "Dame Flora Duffy." On November 25, 2022, she was crowned the ITU Triathlon World Champion in Abu Dhabi.
Flora Duffy's Legacy
The Dame Flora Duffy National Sports Centre in Devonshire Parish is named after her. This includes the Flora Duffy South Field Stadium. It's a great way to honor her achievements and inspire future athletes.
Flora Duffy's Personal Life
Flora Duffy grew up in Bermuda. She went to Warwick Academy in Bermuda, then to Kelly College in England, and the University of Colorado in the United States. She earned a degree in sociology.
In April 2018, Flora started "The Flora Fund." This fund helps young people in Bermuda reach their full potential. It aims to create a healthier and more ambitious community.
In December 2017, Flora married South African triathlete Dan Hugo. They live in both Stellenbosch, South Africa, and Boulder, Colorado.
