The Florida watercress (scientific name: Nasturtium floridanum) is a special type of plant. It is also known as Florida yellowcress. This plant grows only in Florida, which means it is endemic to that state. You can find it in many wet places across Florida.
About Florida Watercress
This plant is an aquatic species, meaning it loves to live in water or very wet areas. You will usually find it in places that are less than 50 meters (about 164 feet) above sea level. This includes swamps, marshes, and along the edges of streams or ponds.
How it's Different
The Florida watercress looks a lot like the more common watercress (N. officinale). However, there is one main way to tell them apart. The Florida watercress has much smaller seeds. Its seeds are less than 2 millimeters (about 0.08 inches) across. This is a tiny difference, but it helps scientists identify the plant correctly.
