Follett's monardella (Monardella follettii) is a special kind of flowering plant. It belongs to the mint family. This plant is quite rare to find.
Where Does This Plant Grow?
This plant only grows in one place: California. You can find it in the northern part of the Sierra Nevada mountains. Most of these plants live in a county called Plumas County, especially inside the Lassen National Forest.
Follett's monardella likes to grow in rocky mountain forests. You might see it on slopes, sometimes even on a special type of soil called serpentine soil.
What Does It Look Like?
Follett's monardella is a plant that lives for many years. It grows a thin, straight stem that is purple. This stem is mostly smooth and does not have much hair.
Its leaves are shaped like a spear and have smooth edges. They grow in pairs, one across from the other, along the stem.
The flowers grow in a cluster, called an inflorescence. Several pink flowers bloom together. They are held in a cup made of tough, hairy, and sticky leaf-like parts called bracts.
