Folsom, sometimes spelled Folsolm, is a small place in Perry County, Alabama, in the United States. It is known as an unincorporated community. This means it's a group of homes and businesses that doesn't have its own official local government, like a city or town would. Instead, it's part of the larger county area.
The Story of Folsom: How It Got Its Name
Folsom has an interesting history behind its name. It was first called Cleveland Beat. This name came from the time when Grover Cleveland was the President of the United States. During his first time as president, this area was a "voting precinct," which is a specific local area where people go to cast their votes in elections.
A New Name for a New Era
Later, the name of the community was changed to Folsom. This new name was chosen to honor President Cleveland's wife, Frances Folsom. She was a very popular First Lady.
Early Services in Folsom
For a while, Folsom even had its own post office. A post office is where people send and receive mail. The Folsom post office was open from 1887 until 1904, helping the community stay connected.
