José de Anchieta Fontana (born December 31, 1940, died September 9, 1980), known simply as Fontana, was a famous Brazilian footballer. He played as a defender. Fontana was born and passed away in his hometown of Santa Teresa, Espírito Santo.

Fontana's Football Journey

Fontana played for several football clubs during his career. He started playing professionally in 1958.

Early Club Years

  • In 1958, he played for Vitória.
  • From 1959 to 1962, he was part of the Rio Branco team.

Playing for Vasco da Gama

Fontana spent a big part of his career with Vasco da Gama. He played for them from 1962 to 1968. During this time, he played in 561 matches and scored 11 goals.

Time at Cruzeiro

After leaving Vasco da Gama, Fontana joined Cruzeiro. He played for Cruzeiro from 1969 until 1972.

World Cup Champion

Fontana was a key player for the Brazil national football team. He was part of the Brazilian team that won the 1970 FIFA World Cup in Mexico. This was a huge achievement for him and his country. He played 7 matches for the national team.

Later Life
