Foosland is a small village located in Brown Township, Champaign County, Illinois, in the United States. In 2020, about 75 people lived there. The village is named after William Foos, who owned a lot of land nearby in the 1840s.
Where is Foosland?
Foosland is in the northwest part of Champaign County. It is about three miles southeast of Illinois Route 54. Nearby towns include Gibson City to the northeast and Champaign to the southeast. A small stream called Lone Tree Creek flows past the south side of the village.
The village covers a total area of about 0.07 square miles (0.18 square kilometers). All of this area is land.

History of Foosland
Foosland was started in 1874. A post office opened there on June 19 of that year. The town got its name from William Foos. He was important in setting up the town. He also helped bring the Chicago-Paducah railroad station to the area.
William Foos bought and drained about 3,500 acres of land nearby. He managed a farming operation on this land. Foosland officially became an incorporated village in 1959. This means it became its own legal town with its own local government. Paul Verkler was the first mayor of Foosland.
