How Forbush Got Its Name
The community of Forbush is named after an important person from its early history. His name was George Forbush. He was one of the very first European settlers to arrive in this part of North Carolina.
George Forbush's Journey
George Forbush traveled a long way to settle here. He moved south from other states like Maryland, Pennsylvania, and Virginia. In 1748, he found a perfect spot to settle down. This spot was on the west side of the Yadkin River. It was about two miles north of a place called Shallow Ford.
Forbush Township Connection
The name Forbush is also used for a larger area nearby. This area is called the Forbush Township. So, the community and the township share the same historical name.
