Forest Hill is a cool neighborhood in San Francisco, California. It's one of eight special "residence parks" in the city. Think of it like a planned community designed for homes. You can find Forest Hill near the middle of San Francisco. It's southeast of the Inner Sunset area and northeast of West Portal. Its borders are roughly Seventh Avenue/Laguna Honda Boulevard, Taraval Street, and 14th Avenue.
There's also a part called Laguna Honda or the Forest Hill Extension. This area is south of Dewey Boulevard. "Laguna Honda" means "deep lagoon" in Spanish. It probably refers to the Laguna Honda Reservoir nearby.
A Look Back: Forest Hill's Story
How Forest Hill Began
Imagine a time over 100 years ago! Forest Hill was bought by a private company. They bought the land from the family of Adolph Sutro, who was a famous mayor of San Francisco. Digging and building work to create this neighborhood started in 1912.
Unique Streets and Views
The streets in Forest Hill were first built for horses and carriages. Because of this, they are much wider than usual. They also have graceful curves and beautiful landscaping. For a long time, these streets didn't quite fit San Francisco's city rules. So, the city didn't take care of them until 1978. Many homes in Forest Hill have amazing views. Some can see the ocean, while others look out over downtown San Francisco.
