Forest Home is a small community in New York, United States. It's called a census-designated place (CDP). This means it's an area that the government counts for population, but it's not an official city or town. In 2020, about 1,168 people lived there. Forest Home is located right next to the Cornell University campus.

History of Forest Home

The first European settlers arrived in Forest Home in 1794. Joseph and Martha Sydney built a mill on Fall Creek. Mills are buildings where grain is ground into flour. Soon, other mills were built for grinding grain and sawing wood.

At first, the community was called Free Hollow. But in 1876, its name was changed to Forest Home. Two old steel truss bridges were built in the early 1900s. People still use these bridges today. The last mill in the village closed in 1926.

Today, Forest Home is a quiet neighborhood. It is almost completely surrounded by the beautiful Cornell Botanic Gardens. The Forest Home Historic District was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1998. This means it's a special area with important old buildings.
