Formigny (French pronunciation: [fɔʁmiɲi]) was a small town in northwestern France. It was located in the Calvados area of the Normandy region. On January 1, 2017, Formigny joined with another town. It became part of the new town called Formigny La Bataille.
Formigny's Story Through Time
- A very important event happened here on April 15, 1450. It was called the Battle of Formigny.
- The French army won this battle. This victory helped end the Hundred Years War in Normandy.
- In 1823, Formigny grew bigger. It joined with a smaller village called Véret. Véret had about 70 people living there.
- Later, in 1858, another village named Engranville was divided. Most of Engranville became part of Formigny.
- On June 8, 1944, Formigny was set free. American soldiers from the 1st Infantry Division liberated the town. This happened shortly after the D-Day landings at Omaha Beach.
