Fornalutx is a beautiful village located on the island of Majorca (also called Mallorca). It's one of Spain's Balearic Islands. This small village is nestled in a mountainous area. It's surrounded by peaks like the Alfabia Mountains.
The closest town to Fornalutx is Sóller. You can even walk there on pretty footpaths. People in Fornalutx mostly speak Mallorcan Catalan. However, everyone also speaks Castilian Spanish. Fornalutx covers about 19.5 square kilometers. In 2008, it had around 469 people living there.

Exploring Fornalutx Village
The heart of Fornalutx is the Plaça d'Espanya. This main square is surrounded by cozy cafés. You'll also find a general store there. Overlooking the square is the village church. It has a large clock on its front.
Just down the street from the square is the local bakery. It's called the Panaderia de Fornalutx. There are also several restaurants on the road leading out of town. The old tower on the east side of the village is the ajuntament, which means town hall. A few houses away is the public washing house. It has a long bath of water. This water comes from the hills through stone channels. Locals use it to wash clothes.
Village Architecture and Streets
The buildings in Fornalutx are made of stone. They have red roof tiles. Most windows have green painted wooden shutters. Many houses now show their stone walls. This gives them a rustic, old-fashioned look.
The village is built on different levels. Many higher streets are for walking only. They are made of cobblestones. Grassy paths lead off into the orchards and farms.
Nature and Wildlife in Fornalutx
The area around Fornalutx is full of plants. You'll see many orange trees and lemon trees. There are also lots of cacti. Thousands of house sparrows fly around. Sheep graze in the orchards nearby. Higher up, you can find amazing olive groves. Some of these olive trees are more than a thousand years old!
Awards and Recognition
Fornalutx has won awards for its beauty. It's also recognized for protecting its natural environment. In 1983, it received a Silver Plaque. This was from the Mallorcan Tourism Board. It was given for defending and maintaining the village.
In the same year, it won the Second National Price. This was for towns that are well-maintained and beautiful in Spain. In 1985, it received the Premi Alzina. This award came from a local bird and nature group.
Getting Around Fornalutx
The village has good public parking. There are three large parking lots. Big vehicles are not encouraged to drive through the center. This is because of a weight limit and narrow streets. There is a special turning place for trucks and buses. This helps them avoid the village center.
You can find several restaurants, bars, banks, and shops in Fornalutx. The town council also provides free wireless internet access. You can use it for half an hour a day in the main square.
