History of Fort Dodge
From 1865 to 1882, the original Fort Dodge was an important military outpost. It was located along the famous Santa Fe Trail, a busy trade route. After the military fort closed, the site became the Kansas Soldiers' Home in 1890. This home provides care for military veterans.
