Liberty Island facts for kids
Liberty Island is a small island in the New York Harbor in the United States. It is famous for being the home of the amazing Statue of Liberty.
Long ago, this island was known as Bedloe's Island. In 1937, President Franklin D. Roosevelt made the island part of the Statue of Liberty National Monument. This meant it was protected as an important national site. Then, in 1956, the island was officially renamed 'Liberty Island' by a special law from Congress.
