FACT Liverpool is a cool place in Liverpool, England, where you can explore new media art. This type of art uses technology like videos, computers, and digital tools. The building has art galleries, a cinema called Picturehouse, a bar, and a café. It's a hub for creativity and digital experiences!

What is FACT Liverpool?

FACT stands for the Foundation for Art and Creative Technology. It is a special arts centre focused on video and new media art. When it first opened, it gave artists who used these new technologies a place to show their work in the UK.

The History of FACT

FACT Liverpool was designed by a company called Austin-Smith:Lord. It opened its doors in 2003. This was a big deal because it was the first new arts building in Liverpool in over 60 years! The last one was the Liverpool Philharmonic Hall.

FACT quickly became known for showing and creating video and digital art. In 2018, FACT celebrated its 15th birthday, marking many years of amazing exhibitions.

First Exhibitions and Famous Artists

The very first art show at FACT was called Baltimore by Isaac Julien. This artwork was so popular that it traveled around for ten years! Since then, FACT has shown over 350 new media and digital artworks.

Many famous artists have had their work displayed here. These include Pipilotti Rist, Nam June Paik, Haroon Mirza, Agnes Varda, Wu Tsang, and Apichatpong Weerasethakul.

Exciting Exhibitions and Events

FACT is always busy supporting and showing visual art that uses creative media and digital technology. They host many interesting events and exhibitions.

Special Guest Appearances

In 2007, the Picturehouse cinema at FACT had a special event. The famous film director Quentin Tarantino visited for a question and answer session. This was for the UK release of his movie Death Proof.

In 2015, as part of an exhibition called Follow, FACT showed a unique artwork. Artist Shia LaBeouf answered phone calls from the public as part of his art piece.

Partnerships and International Shows

FACT is an important partner venue for the Liverpool Biennial. This is a big art festival that happens every two years. In 2018, FACT showed works by Agnes Varda and Mohamed Bourouissa for the Biennial.

Also in 2018, FACT helped create an amazing art installation called AURORA. This immersive experience took place at Toxteth Reservoir. It was made by artists Invisible Flock. FACT also showed Broken Symmetries, a large international exhibition. This show was created with other art centres from around the world, including Arts at CERN and the CCCB in Barcelona.
