Fountain Grove is a small, quiet place in the southwest part of Linn County, in the U.S. state of Missouri. It's known as an unincorporated community, which means it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town does. Instead, it's part of the larger county area.

Exploring Fountain Grove's Location

Fountain Grove is located about five miles south of a town called Meadville. You can find it along Missouri Route W, which is a road that helps people get around the area.

Right next to Fountain Grove, on its south and west sides, is the Fountain Grove Conservation Area. This is a special place where nature is protected, and people can often enjoy outdoor activities. Just a little over a mile to the south, in nearby Livingston County, the Grand River flows by. Rivers are important for wildlife and can be beautiful natural features.

A Look Back in Time: Fountain Grove's History

The area that became Fountain Grove was officially mapped out and planned in 1871. This process is called "platting," which means creating a detailed map showing how the land is divided into lots and streets.

Later, in 1875, a post office was opened in Fountain Grove. Post offices were very important back then for sending and receiving letters and packages. This post office served the community for many years, staying open until 1940. After that, people in Fountain Grove likely used post offices in nearby towns.
