Fournier Island is a small piece of land located in a very cold place called Antarctica. It's part of the Palmer Archipelago, a group of islands near the Antarctic Peninsula. This tiny island sits in the southern part of the Schollaert Channel, very close to Anvers Island. It is about 0.9 kilometers (0.5 nautical miles) away from Anvers Island.

About Fournier Island

Fournier Island is an uninhabited island, meaning no people live there. It is located in a remote part of the world, covered by the Antarctic Treaty System. This treaty helps make sure Antarctica is used for peaceful scientific research.

How Fournier Island Got Its Name

The island was first mapped by the French Antarctic Expedition, 1903–05 between 1903 and 1905. However, the explorers did not give it a name at that time.

Later, in 1950, the name "Fournier Island" started to appear on maps made by Argentina. The island was named after a ship called Fournier. This ship was part of the Argentine Antarctic Expedition in 1947. Sadly, the Fournier ship was lost in the Strait of Magellan in 1948.
