Fox Plaza is a tall building with 29 floors located in San Francisco, California. It stands on Market Street in the Civic Center area. Finished in 1966, this building is about 354 feet (107.9 meters) tall. It was built on the same spot where a famous old movie theater, the Fox Theatre, once stood.
What's Inside Fox Plaza?
Fox Plaza is a mix of offices and homes. The first 12 floors are used for offices.
Most buildings skip the 13th floor, but Fox Plaza actually has one! This floor is for building services, not for people to live or work in.
Above the offices, floors 14 through 29 are apartments for rent. The 14th floor also has laundry rooms for residents. On the ground floor, there's a gym just for people who live there.
Shops and Services
On the ground level, there's a smaller section with shops and services. You can find a Credit Union, another gym, offices, a Starbucks coffee shop, and even a US Post Office there.
The current owners are thinking about building something new where these shops are. They plan to replace the low-rise retail area with a new building that will be about 120 feet tall and have condominiums.
A Bit of History
Fox Plaza was built in 1966. Before that, the site was home to the historic Fox Theatre. This grand movie theater opened in June 1929. It was a very popular place for entertainment for many years. However, the theater was taken down in 1963 to make way for the Fox Plaza building we see today.
