Playing for Football Clubs
Frédéric Déhu started his professional football journey with RC Lens. He quickly became a key player for the team. From his third season in 1993–94, he was a regular starter.
Success with Lens
In the 1996–97 season, Déhu scored five goals, which was his best scoring year. The next year, in 1997–98, he was a very important part of the defense. His strong play helped Lens win their first-ever Ligue 1 title. This was a huge achievement for the club. He played almost 300 games for Lens before moving on.
Time at FC Barcelona
In the summer of 1999, Déhu joined the famous Spanish club FC Barcelona. However, he didn't play much there. He appeared in only 23 matches across all competitions. He scored one goal for Barcelona in a UEFA Champions League game against AIK Fotboll, which Barcelona won 5–0. After just one season, he left the club.
Return to France with PSG
Déhu then returned to France and joined Paris Saint-Germain F.C. (PSG) in 2000. He stayed with the team in Paris for four years. In his final season with PSG, 2003–04, he helped them win the Coupe de France, a major French cup competition.
Later Career and Retirement
After PSG, Déhu moved to Olympique de Marseille in 2004. He played there for two years. Then, he went back to Spain to play for Levante UD. His time at Levante was short, and he didn't play often. He was sent off (given a red card) twice in home games.
Frédéric Déhu decided to retire from football in March 2008. He was almost 36 years old at the time. He had spent the first few months of that season without a team.
Playing for France
Frédéric Déhu also played for the France national football team. He earned five international appearances for his country. His first game for France was on August 19, 1998. It was a friendly match against Austria in Vienna, which ended in a 2–2 draw.
