Framboise facts for kids
Framboise is a special type of Belgian beer. It gets its name from the French word for raspberry, which is framboise. This beer is made by adding real raspberries to a unique kind of beer called lambic. The raspberries help the beer to ferment, which is the process that turns sugars into alcohol.

What is Framboise Beer?
Framboise is mainly known as a Belgian lambic beer. It is made using real raspberries. This type of beer is a modern version of fruit beers. It was inspired by an older, more traditional Belgian beer called kriek. Kriek beer is made in a similar way, but it uses sour cherries instead of raspberries.
How Framboise is Made
To make framboise, brewers add fresh raspberries to lambic beer. Lambic beer is special because it ferments using wild yeasts from the air. This gives it a very unique, often sour, taste. When raspberries are added, their natural sugars ferment too. This gives framboise its fruity flavor and often a sweet taste.
Different Kinds of Framboise
Most framboise beers are quite sweet. However, some breweries make different versions. For example, the Cantillon Brewery makes a tart framboise called Rosé de Gambrinus. It tastes more like the traditional sour kriek beer. The Liefmans brewery uses a different type of beer called oud bruin instead of lambic. This gives their framboise a very different flavor.
There are also framboise-style beers made outside of Belgium. For instance, the New Glarus Brewing Company in Wisconsin makes a beer called "Raspberry Tart." They describe it as a "Wisconsin Framboise Ale."
Serving Framboise
Framboise is usually served in a small glass. This glass often has a foot and looks a bit like a champagne flute, but it is shorter. This special glass helps to show off the beer's color and smell.
