François Lake is a beautiful and long lake in British Columbia, Canada. It's located about 30 kilometers (19 miles) south of Burns Lake. It's also about 10 kilometers (6 miles) west of Fraser Lake. This amazing lake stretches for 110 kilometers (68 miles).
It's the second longest natural lake found entirely within British Columbia. Only Babine Lake is longer! The Nadina River flows into the lake from the west. The Stellako River flows out of the lake. People love to fish here for rainbow trout and char.

Where is it?
François Lake is in the Canadian province of British Columbia. It's part of the Nechako Lakes area. You can find it south of a town called Burns Lake. It's also west of another town, Fraser Lake.
How Big is it?
This lake is really long! It stretches for about 110 kilometers (68 miles). That makes it one of the longest lakes in British Columbia. The deepest part of the lake goes down 244.4 meters (802 feet). That's like stacking 60 elephants on top of each other! The lake sits at an elevation of 715 meters (2,346 feet) above sea level.
What's in a Name?
The lake's original name was Nidabun. This word meant "lip lake." It described the lake's unique shape. Later, French-Canadian people came to the area. They heard "Nidaa" and thought it sounded like "nedo." This word meant "whiteman" to them.
So, they started calling it Lac des Français. This means "Lake of the French." Over time, the name changed again. It became the name we use today: François Lake.
