Frances Drake (born Frances Morgan Dean; October 22, 1912 – January 18, 2000) was an American actress. She was famous for her role as Eponine in the 1935 movie Les Misérables.

Early Life
Frances Drake was born in New York City, U.S. Her family was quite wealthy. She went to school at Havergal College in Canada. When she was 14, she moved to England to study. She was living there when the stock market crashed in 1929. This event changed her family's money situation.
Acting Career
After the stock market crash, Frances needed to earn money for the first time. She started working as a dancer and stage actress. She soon found that acting in movies paid even better.
In 1933, she met an actor named Gordon Wallace in London. They formed a dance team. A stage producer then asked them to act in a play. After that, Frances was invited to make movies in England.
Moving to Hollywood
Frances returned to the United States in 1934. She was offered a contract by Paramount Pictures. The studio changed her name to Frances Drake. They did this to avoid confusion with another popular actress, Frances Dee.
She received acting lessons from opera singer Marguerite Namara. Frances often played characters who were "damsels in distress." These were heroines who needed to be rescued. She appeared in early horror and science fiction movies. She acted alongside famous stars like Bela Lugosi, Boris Karloff, and Peter Lorre. Many people remember her for playing scared heroines in mystery and horror films.
Personal Life
On February 12, 1939, Frances Drake married Cecil Howard. He was the second son of a noble family. Cecil did not like her acting career. Frances retired from movies when he received his inheritance. Cecil Howard passed away in 1985. In 1992, Frances married David Brown. He died in 2009.
Achievements and Recognition
Frances Drake has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. It is located at 6821 Hollywood Boulevard. This star honors her work in motion pictures. A school in Leominster, Massachusetts, is also named after her.
Later Years and Death
Frances Drake passed away in Irvine, California, on January 18, 2000. She was 87 years old. Her burial place is in the Hollywood Forever Cemetery in Hollywood, California.
