Francesca Archibugi (born May 16, 1960) is a talented Italian film director and scriptwriter. She is known for creating movies that often look closely at family life and the experiences of young people.

Life and Career
Francesca Archibugi grew up in Rome, Italy. Her family was very interested in learning and ideas. She began her journey in the film world by studying acting. Later, she graduated in Film Direction from the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia, a famous film school in Rome.
Early Work
From 1980 to 1983, Francesca directed several short films. One of them, La piccola avventura (1981), was about children with disabilities. She also acted in some films, like La caduta degli angeli ribelli (1981) and Segreti, segreti (1986). In 1987, she wrote the script for the film L'estate sta finendo.
First Feature Films
Her first full-length movie was Mignon Has Come to Stay in 1988. This film showed a family's struggles and the first feelings of teenage love and disappointment. It was a big success, winning five David di Donatello awards. These awards are like the Italian Academy Awards. She won for Best New Director, and the film also won for Best Actress, Best Supporting Actor, Best Script, and Best Sound. While making this film, she met and fell in love with the composer Battista Lena, who wrote the music for her movie.
Her second film, Towards Evening (1990), was also very popular. It starred famous actors like Marcello Mastroianni. This movie was named Best Film of the year at the David di Donatello Awards and was shown at the 17th Moscow International Film Festival.
Continued Success
Francesca's third film, The Great Pumpkin (1993), was another hit. It won two David di Donatello awards for Best Film and Best Script. This movie was also shown at the 1993 Cannes Film Festival, which is one of the most important film festivals in the world.
She continued to direct many more films. In 1994, she made Con gli occhi chiusi, based on a novel. Later, she directed Shooting the Moon (1998) and Tomorrow (2001), which was about the 1997 Umbria and Marche earthquake. She also directed Flying Lessons in 2007.
