Francesco Gabbani (born September 9, 1982) is an Italian singer, songwriter, and musician who plays many instruments. He became well-known after winning the newcomers' section of the Sanremo Music Festival 2016 with his song "Amen". The very next year, he won the main section of the Sanremo Music Festival 2017 with his hit song "Occidentali's Karma". He also represented Italy in the Eurovision Song Contest 2017, where he finished in 6th place.

Francesco Gabbani's Music Journey

Early Music Beginnings (2009–2014)

Francesco Gabbani started his music career around 2009. He released his first singles, "Estate" and "Maledetto amore," in 2011. His first studio album, Greitist Iz, was released on May 27, 2014. This album reached number 59 on the Italian Albums Chart.

Winning Sanremo (2015–2016)

In 2015, Francesco signed with BMG, a big music company. The next year, he was chosen to compete in the newcomers' section of the Sanremo Music Festival 2016. He won the competition with his song "Amen". This song also won the Mia Martini Critics Award. "Amen" was released in November 2015 and became a platinum-certified hit in Italy. It reached number 14 on the Italian Singles Chart.

Francesco released his second album, Eternamente ora, on February 12, 2016. It reached number 18 on the Italian Albums Chart. Later that year, he released "Eternamente ora" and "In equilibrio" as singles from the album. In 2016, Francesco also wrote music for the Italian comedy movie Poveri ma ricchi. One song from the film, "Foglie al gelo," was released as a single in December 2016.

Eurovision and Magellano (2017–2018)

Francesco Gabbani returned to the Sanremo Music Festival 2017 the following year. He won the "Big Artists" section with his song "Occidentali's Karma". This made him the first artist to win both sections of the Sanremo Music Festival in two years in a row!

After his win, it was announced that Francesco would represent Italy at the Eurovision Song Contest 2017 in Kyiv, Ukraine. Since Italy is one of the "Big Five" countries, he automatically went to the final on May 13, 2017. Many people thought he would win Eurovision, but he finished in 6th place with 334 points.

In April 2017, Francesco announced his third album, Magellano, which came out on April 28, 2017. This album included his Eurovision song "Occidentali's Karma". To promote the album, Francesco went on a tour across Italy from June to September 2017. The album became number one on the Italian Albums Chart.

New Music and Sanremo (2019–2020)

On May 4, 2019, Francesco released "È un'altra cosa," the first single from his fourth album, Viceversa. He also competed in the Sanremo Music Festival 2020 with the song "Viceversa", where he placed second. This single reached number two on the Italian Singles Chart and was certified platinum.

Volevamo solo essere felici (2021–2023)

On September 3, 2021, Francesco released "La rete," which was the first song from his fifth album. In March 2022, the album's title, Volevamo solo essere felici, was announced. The title track was released as a single on March 11, 2022.

Recent Activities (2024–Present)

In December 2024, Francesco Gabbani was announced as one of the artists for the Sanremo Music Festival 2025. He placed 8th with his song "Viva la vita". In 2025, Francesco will also become a mentor on the nineteenth season of X Factor Italy, a popular TV show where he will help new singers.
