Francesco Janich (born March 27, 1937 – died December 2, 2019) was an Italian footballer. He was known for playing as a sweeper. This position is a type of defender who "sweeps up" any loose balls or attacks that get past the main defenders.

Francesco Janich: A Football Journey
Francesco Janich had a long and successful career in Italian football. He played for several well-known clubs. He also represented his country on the international stage. After his playing days, he continued to work in football.
Playing for Top Clubs
Janich began his club career in 1956. He played for Atalanta from 1956 to 1958. After that, he joined Lazio, playing there from 1958 to 1961.
His longest time was with Bologna, where he played from 1961 to 1972. He finished his playing career at Lucchese in 1972–73.
During his time, Janich won the Coppa Italia twice. He won it with Lazio in 1958 and with Bologna in 1970. He was also a key player when Bologna won the Serie A championship in the 1963–64 season.
Janich played in 448 matches during his career. Interestingly, he never scored a goal. He also set a record for playing many games without ever getting a red card. This shows he was a very disciplined player.
Playing for Italy
