Francisco and Isabella were double first cousins. This means their fathers were brothers, and their mothers were sisters. They had twelve children together. One of their children was King Alfonso XII. Isabella was removed from her throne during the Glorious Revolution in 1868. However, the monarchy was brought back in 1874. Their son, Alfonso XII, then became king. After his son became king, Francisco was known as the "king father."
