Francisco de Asís, Duke of Cádiz, was a Spanish prince. He became the King of Spain as the husband of Queen Isabella II. Their marriage took place on October 10, 1846. He was King Consort until Isabella was removed from power on September 30, 1868.

Francisco and Isabella were double first cousins. This means their fathers were brothers, and their mothers were sisters. They had twelve children together. One of their children was King Alfonso XII. Isabella was removed from her throne during the Glorious Revolution in 1868. However, the monarchy was brought back in 1874. Their son, Alfonso XII, then became king. After his son became king, Francisco was known as the "king father."

Francisco de Asís was born on May 13, 1822, in Aranjuez, Spain. He was the second son of Infante Francisco de Paula of Spain. His mother was Princess Luisa Carlotta of the Two Sicilies. He was named after Saint Francis of Assisi.

From 1864, Francisco de Asís served as the president of the Spanish Privy Council. This was an important group that advised the monarch.

In 1868, Francisco and his wife, Isabella, went to live in France. They used the secret title of Count of Moratalla. On June 25, 1870, Isabella gave up her throne for their son, Alfonso XII. Alfonso became king in 1874 when the monarchy was restored. By this time, Francisco de Asís and Isabella had separated in a friendly way. Over time, they became good friends.

In 1881, Francisco de Asís moved to a large house in Épinay-sur-Seine, France. This building is now the city hall. He passed away there in 1902. His wife Isabella and two of his daughters, Isabel and Eulalia, were with him when he died.
