In April 1640, Francis Pierrepont was elected as a Member of Parliament (MP). He represented the area of East Retford in what was called the Short Parliament. Later, in 1645, he was elected again. This time, he became an MP for Nottingham in the Long Parliament.

During the English Civil War, Francis Pierrepont played a military role. He gathered a group of soldiers to fight for the Parliament. He became the leader, or colonel, of this group.

Building Pierrepont House

Francis Pierrepont also left a lasting mark on the city of Nottingham. He built a large home there called Pierrepont House. This house was built in the middle of the 1600s.
