Francis Spring Rice, 4th Baron Monteagle of Brandon (born October 1, 1852 – died December 22, 1937) was an important person from an Anglo-Irish family. He held the title of a Baron, which is a type of noble rank.
Early Life and Education
Francis Spring Rice was born into a well-known family. His father was Stephen Edmond Spring Rice, and his grandfather was Thomas Spring Rice, 1st Baron Monteagle of Brandon, who was the first person in their family to hold the title of Baron.
Francis went to a famous school called Harrow School. After finishing school, he decided to join the Royal Navy, which is the United Kingdom's navy.
In the Royal Navy, Francis Spring Rice worked hard and rose through the ranks. He eventually became a Lieutenant. A Lieutenant in the navy is an officer who leads a group of sailors and helps command a ship. After serving for some time, he retired from the navy.
Family Life and Title
Francis Spring Rice married Elizabeth Ann FitzGerald on September 28, 1882. She was the daughter of Sir Peter FitzGerald, 19th Knight of Kerry. After Elizabeth passed away, he married her sister, Julia, on September 11, 1935.
In 1934, Francis inherited the title of Baron Monteagle of Brandon from his nephew. This meant he became the 4th Baron Monteagle of Brandon. Even though he held this important title, he never took part in discussions or votes in the House of Lords. The House of Lords is part of the United Kingdom's Parliament, where laws are made. Francis passed away three years after inheriting the title.
His first son died when he was a baby, so his second son, Charles, inherited the title after Francis.
