Francisco Hernández Girón was born in Cáceres, Extremadura, Spain. He was a Spanish conquistador, which means he was an explorer and soldier who helped Spain take control of new lands in the Americas. He died in Lima, Peru, on December 7, 1554.

Arrival in Peru

Francisco Hernández Girón came to Peru in 1535. He arrived with other important people, including Blasco Núñez Vela, who would later become a governor.

At this time, there was a big power struggle in Peru. Two main groups were fighting: the Pizarro brothers and the followers of Diego de Almagro, called the Almagristas. Hernández Girón did not pick a side in these early fights.

Changing Sides

The conflicts in Peru were very intense. Diego de Almagro was put to death in 1538. Later, in 1541, Francisco Pizarro, who was the governor of Peru, was killed by Almagro's son.

After these events, a new governor named Cristóbal Vaca de Castro took charge. He defeated the Almagristas. Then, Blasco Núñez Vela was sent by the King of Spain to be the new leader, called a viceroy. A viceroy was like a king's representative in the new lands. Hernández Girón decided to support Viceroy Blasco Núñez Vela.

Battles and Rebellion

Hernández Girón fought in important battles, like the battle of Añaquito. He was lucky to escape when his side was losing.

Later, he fought again at the battle of Jaquijahuana. This time, he was on the side of the royal forces, led by Pedro de la Gasca, and they won a big victory.

However, on November 13, 1553, Hernández Girón started his own rebellion. He was unhappy with the new rules and taxes set by Melchor Bravo de Saravia, who was another viceroy. His rebellion was defeated on December 7, 1554, and he was put to death in Lima.
