He held the title of Duke of Seville and was a distant relative of the Spanish royal family. He was also a businessman, working in areas like banking and real estate.

Early Life and Family Connections
Francisco de Borbón y Escasany was born in Madrid, Spain. He was the oldest child of Francisco de Borbón y Borbón. His mother was Enriqueta Escasany y Miquel.
His family had strong ties to Spanish royalty. Both of his paternal grandparents were cousins. They were also grandchildren of Infante Enrique of Spain. This means the Duke of Seville was part of the Spanish branch of the House of Bourbon. He was related to King Felipe VI of Spain, as both are descendants of King Charles IV of Spain.
Becoming the Duke of Seville
Francisco de Borbón y Escasany became the Duke of Seville after his grandmother, Enriqueta de Borbón y Parade, passed away. His father had decided not to take the title in 1968, allowing Francisco to inherit it.
Family Life and Children
Francisco de Borbón y Escasany was married three times. His first marriage was on July 7, 1973, to Countess Beatrice Wilhelmine Paula von Hardenberg. They had three children together before divorcing in 1989.
Their children are:
- Olivia Enriqueta María Josefa de Borbón y Hardenberg (born 1974): She is an entrepreneur and works in public relations for jewelry brands. She is married to Julián Porras-Figueroa y Toledano and has two children.
- Cristina Elena de Borbón y Hardenberg (1975–2020): She was a chef and ran a catering service.
- Francisco de Borbón y Hardenberg (born 1979): He is also an entrepreneur. He appeared on a TV show called Secret Princes. In 2018, he became the 50th Grand Master of the Order of Saint Lazarus. He married Sophie Elizabeth Karoly in 2021, and they have a son named Francisco Máximo.
His second marriage was to Isabelle Eugénie Karanitsch in 1991. They did not have any children and divorced in 1993.
He married for the third time in 2000 to María de los Ángeles de Vargas-Zúñiga y Juanes. They did not have children together, but she had children from a previous marriage.
Role in the Order of Saint Lazarus

The Duke of Seville was chosen as the 48th Grand Master of the Order of Saint Lazarus in 1996. This was a special role, and he took over from his father, who had been the Grand Master since 1956.
He stepped down from this position in 2008. His cousin, Carlos Gereda y de Borbón, became the next Grand Master. The Duke of Seville was then given the title of Grand Master Emeritus. Later, in 2018, his son, Francisco de Borbón y Hardenberg, was elected as the 50th Grand Master of the Order.
Passing Away
The Duke of Seville passed away in Madrid on May 20, 2025. He was 81 years old.
