About the Frank Campbell House

The Frank Campbell House is found in the village of Cherryfield. It sits on the south side of Millbridge Road, which is also US Route 1. This house is a fantastic example of a building style popular in the late 1800s.

What Does It Look Like?

The house is made of wood and has 1-1/2 stories. It's shaped like a square. A tall, 2-1/2 story tower sticks out from the front of the house. The outside walls are covered with wooden clapboards.

The roof is a special type called a mansard roof, which flares out at the bottom. The tower also has a similar roof. Both roofs have fancy dormer windows. These windows have cool rounded or arched tops.

There's a porch built around the bottom of the tower. It matches the style of the rest of the house. The edges of the roof have pretty decorations. These include small block-like shapes called dentil moulding and decorative brackets. A single-story part of the house extends to the back. It connects to a small building that used to be a carriage barn.

Who Designed This House?

The Frank Campbell House was built in 1875. It was designed by Charles A. Allen. He lived in Cherryfield and was a well-known architect in the area. Charles A. Allen designed three other fancy houses in Cherryfield. His work helped make the town famous for its beautiful old buildings.
