Frank Dufina (born June 30, 1884 – died August 11, 1972) was an amazing American professional golfer. He was a member of the Mackinac Bands of Chippewa and Ottawa Indians. This made him the first Native American to play golf professionally. He helped shape the early days of golf in the United States.

Starting His Golf Journey
Frank Dufina began his golf career in 1898. He started at the brand-new Wawashkamo Golf Club on Mackinac Island, Michigan. He became the club's professional golfer there. A professional golfer is someone who plays golf for money and teaches others.
A Trailblazer in Golf
Frank Dufina made history as the first Native American to play on the professional golf circuit. This means he competed in big tournaments against other top golfers. He played in the important Western Open tournament in both 1911 and 1922.
A Long and Remarkable Career
Dufina continued to play golf for many years. In 1968, he was recognized by Golf Digest magazine. They named him the "Longest Working Golf Professional in History." This shows how dedicated he was to the sport.
Frank Dufina was friends with many famous golfers from his time. One of his closest friends was the legendary golfer Walter Hagen. When Hagen passed away, Frank Dufina was one of the people who helped carry his coffin at the funeral. Other famous golfers, like Arnold Palmer, were also there.
Today, Frank Dufina's legacy lives on. The Frank Dufina Match Play Championship is held every year at the Wawashkamo Golf Club. This tournament is named in his honor. It celebrates his important contributions to golf.
