Frank Brandon Gaines, born on July 7, 1990, is an American professional basketball player. He currently plays for BC Vienna in the Austrian Basketball Superliga. Before becoming a pro, he played college basketball at Indiana University–Purdue University Fort Wayne.

High School Basketball Career
Frank Gaines went to Boyd H. Anderson High School in Lauderdale Lakes, Florida. In his final year, he scored about 16.7 points and grabbed 7.0 rebounds per game. He helped his team achieve an amazing 30 wins and only 2 losses. They made it to the Florida 6A State Final but lost there.
College Basketball Journey
Frank Gaines started his college basketball journey in the 2009–10 season. He played for the Mastodons.
Freshman Year (2009–10)
In his first year, he played 31 games. He averaged 4.2 points and 2.3 rebounds in about 13.4 minutes per game.
Sophomore Year (2010–11)
During his second year, Frank became a key player for the Mastodons. He was great at scoring and getting rebounds. He earned an award called All-Summit League Honorable Mention. He was also named the Summit League Player of the Week on January 31, 2011. In 30 games, he averaged 14.8 points and 6.2 rebounds.
Junior Year (2011–12)
In his third year, Frank was named to the All-Summit League first team. He also made the NABC All-District second team. He scored at least one three-point basket in 24 out of 30 games. In one game, he hit five three-pointers. He averaged 21.2 points, 5.9 rebounds, and 1.4 steals per game.
Senior Year (2012–13)
For his final college season, Frank was again named to the All-Summit League first team. He also made the Summit League All-Tournament Team. In 32 games, he averaged 19.8 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 1.4 steals.
Professional Basketball Career
Frank Gaines was not chosen in the 2013 NBA draft. However, he started his professional career soon after.
Starting Out (2013–14)
On November 1, 2013, the Maine Red Claws picked him in the NBA Development League Draft. He was the first pick in the second round. On April 22, 2014, he won the NBA Development League Most Improved Player award. This award goes to the player who has shown the most improvement.
He also played a few games for Gigantes de Guayana in Venezuela in April 2014.
Moving Around (2014–15)
In June 2014, Frank signed with Juvecaserta Basket in Italy. He also played in the NBA Summer League for the Indiana Pacers and Miami Heat. He left Juvecaserta in December 2014. The next day, he signed a short-term deal with Victoria Libertas Pesaro.
In February 2015, Frank joined the Oklahoma City Blue. After the D-League season ended, he played for Caciques de Humacao in Puerto Rico.
Playing in Europe (2015–17)
In July 2015, Frank played for the Oklahoma City Thunder in the NBA Summer League. On August 17, 2015, he signed with Wilki Morskie Szczecin in Poland.
On July 29, 2016, he signed with SC Rasta Vechta in Germany for the 2016–17 season.
The Basketball Tournament (2016–17)
In the summers of 2016 and 2017, Frank Gaines played in The Basketball Tournament (TBT). This tournament is shown on ESPN. He played for Team 23, trying to win a big prize. In 2017, he averaged 11.5 points per game. He helped Team 23 reach the second round of the tournament.
Later Career (2018–Present)
Frank Gaines continued to play for many teams around the world.
- 2018–19 season: He signed with Pallacanestro Cantù in Italy.
- 2019–20 season: He joined Virtus Bologna in Italy. He averaged 9.7 points per game.
- 2020–21 season: He signed with Bnei Herzliya in Israel. Later, he returned to Pallacanestro Cantù. After Cantù finished last, he played for Scafati Basket in the playoffs.
- 2021–22 season: He signed with Cangrejeros de Santurce in Puerto Rico. He averaged 18.7 points per game. Later, he signed with S.L. Benfica in Portugal. He helped Benfica become champions in 2022.
- 2022–23 season: He signed with Pallacanestro Trieste in Italy. In February 2023, he moved to Fos Provence Basket in France.
- 2024–25 season: On December 6, 2024, Frank Gaines signed with BC Vienna in the Austrian Basketball Superliga. He is still playing for them.
Personal Life
Frank Gaines is the son of Frank Sr. and Ronae Gaines. He has three siblings: Dwight, Alicia, and Lashonda.
