Frank Brandon Gaines, born on July 7, 1990, is an American professional basketball player. He currently plays for BC Vienna in Austria's top basketball league, the Austrian Basketball Superliga. Before turning pro, Frank played college basketball at Indiana University–Purdue University Fort Wayne.

High School Basketball Journey
Frank Gaines went to Boyd H. Anderson High School in Lauderdale Lakes, Florida. In his final year, he was a key player. He scored about 16.7 points and grabbed 7 rebounds per game. Frank helped his team achieve an amazing 30 wins and only 2 losses. They even made it to the Florida 6A State Final!
College Career Highlights
Frank Gaines started his college basketball journey at IPFW in the 2009–10 season. He didn't play his first year, which is called "redshirting."
Freshman Season (2009–10)
In his first year playing, Frank played in 31 games. He averaged 4.2 points and 2.3 rebounds. He was still getting used to college-level play.
Sophomore Season (2010–11)
By his second year, Frank became a much stronger player. He was a main scorer and rebounder for his team. He even earned an "Honorable Mention" award in the Summit League. In one week, he was named the Summit League Player of the Week! He averaged 14.8 points and 6.2 rebounds per game.
Junior Season (2011–12)
Frank continued to improve in his junior year. He was named to the All-Summit League first team. This means he was one of the best players in the league! He scored at least one three-point shot in 24 out of 30 games. He averaged an impressive 21.2 points, 5.9 rebounds, and 1.4 steals per game.
Senior Season (2012–13)
In his final college year, Frank was again named to the All-Summit League first team. This was his second time! He also made the Summit League All-Tournament Team. He averaged 19.8 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 1.4 steals per game.
Professional Basketball Journey
After college, Frank Gaines was not chosen in the 2013 NBA draft. However, he soon began his professional career.
Starting in the NBA D-League (2013–14)
In November 2013, Frank was picked by the Maine Red Claws in the NBA Development League (now called the G-League). He played so well that he was named the NBA D-League Most Improved Player in April 2014! Later that month, he played a few games for Gigantes de Guayana in Venezuela.
Playing in Italy and Puerto Rico (2014–15)
In June 2014, Frank signed with Juvecaserta Basket in Italy. He also joined the Indiana Pacers and Miami Heat for the NBA Summer Leagues. After leaving Juvecaserta, he signed with Victoria Libertas Pesaro in Italy for two months. In February 2015, he joined the Oklahoma City Blue in the D-League. After that season, he played for Caciques de Humacao in Puerto Rico.
Playing in Poland and Germany (2015–17)
In July 2015, Frank played for the Oklahoma City Thunder in the NBA Summer League. Then, in August, he signed with Wilki Morskie Szczecin in Poland for the 2015–16 season. The next year, in July 2016, he moved to Germany to play for SC Rasta Vechta.
The Basketball Tournament (2016–2017)
During the summers of 2016 and 2017, Frank Gaines played in The Basketball Tournament (TBT). This is a special tournament shown on ESPN where teams compete for a large cash prize. In 2017, he averaged 11.5 points per game for his team, Team 23. They made it to the second round of the tournament.
Playing in Italy and Israel (2018–21)
In June 2018, Frank signed with Pallacanestro Cantù in Italy. He played there for the 2018–19 season. In July 2019, he joined Virtus Bologna, another Italian team. He averaged 9.7 points per game there. In July 2020, Frank signed with Bnei Herzliya in Israel. In January 2021, he returned to Pallacanestro Cantù. After that season, he played for Scafati Basket in the Italian Serie A2 playoffs.
Playing in Puerto Rico and Portugal (2021–22)
In August 2021, Frank signed with Cangrejeros de Santurce in Puerto Rico. He averaged 18.7 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 2.8 assists per game. In November, he moved to Portugal to play for S.L. Benfica. With Benfica, he helped his team become the LPB champion in 2022!
Recent Seasons (2022–Present)
In August 2022, Frank signed with Pallacanestro Trieste in Italy. In February 2023, he moved to Fos Provence Basket in France. In 2024, he played for Tigers Tübingen in Germany and Metros de Santiago in the Dominican Republic. Since 2024, Frank has been playing for BC Vienna in Austria.
