Franklin Lenard Johnson (born November 23, 1958) is an American former professional basketball player and coach. He played for ten seasons in the National Basketball Association (NBA). He was a point guard for teams like the Washington Bullets, Houston Rockets, and Phoenix Suns.

Playing Career Highlights

Frank Johnson played basketball for the Lake Weir Hurricanes in high school. In his junior year (1974–1975), he was a star player. His team won Marion County's first state championship, finishing with an amazing 33 wins and 0 losses.

He then played college basketball at Wake Forest University. He was chosen as an All-American player in the 1980–81 season. Wake Forest honored him by putting him in their hall of fame in 1998.

In 1981, Frank was picked by the Washington Bullets in the first round of the 1981 NBA draft. He was the 11th player chosen overall. He played for the Bullets from 1981 to 1988. Later, he joined the Houston Rockets for the 1988–89 season. He also played for the Phoenix Suns from 1992 to 1994. His main job with the Suns was to help out star player Kevin Johnson.

Frank also played basketball overseas. He played professionally in Italy for teams like Ranger Varese (1989–91) and Marr Rimini (1991). He even played in the Italian Championship finals in 1990. He played a total of 650 games in the NBA. During his regular season career, he averaged 8.3 points and 4.2 assists per game.

Coaching Career

After his playing career, Frank Johnson became a basketball coach. He worked as an assistant coach for the Phoenix Suns from 1997 to 2001. He then became the head coach for the Suns from 2001 to 2004. Later, in 2017, he was an assistant coach for the Milwaukee Bucks.

Personal Life

Frank Johnson earned a cool nickname during his playing days: "Fourth Quarter Frank." He got this name because he was known for making important plays and helping his team win close games, especially in the final quarter.

Family Connections

Frank's brother, "Fast Eddie", was also a professional basketball player. Eddie played in the NBA for more than eight seasons, mostly with the Atlanta Hawks. He was a two-time All-Star in 1980 and 1981.
