František Čapek (born October 24, 1914 – died January 31, 2008) was a famous Czechoslovakian athlete. He was a talented sprint canoeist who competed in the late 1940s and mid-1950s. He is best known for winning a gold medal at the Olympic Games.

František Čapek was born in a place called Branice, in the Písek District. He grew up to become a strong and skilled canoeist. Canoe sprint is a sport where athletes race canoes over water, using paddles to move very fast.

Olympic Gold Medal

One of his biggest achievements was at the 1948 Summer Olympics held in London. František Čapek competed in the C-1 10000 metres event. This means he raced a single canoe over a distance of 10,000 metres, which is about 6.2 miles! He paddled his way to victory and won a gold medal for Czechoslovakia. This was a huge moment in his career and for his country.

World Championship Silver

After his Olympic success, František Čapek continued to compete. In 1954, he participated in the 1954 ICF Canoe Sprint World Championships. This event took place in Mâcon, a city in France. Just like at the Olympics, he competed in the C-1 10000 metres event. He showed his skill once again by winning a silver medal. This proved he was one of the top canoeists in the world for many years.

František Čapek's dedication and talent made him a true champion in the sport of canoe sprint. He is remembered for his amazing achievements on the water.
