Starting in Alice Springs
Fred Campbell began his football career far from the big city AFL clubs. He played for the Pioneer Football Club. This club is located in Alice Springs, in the Northern Territory of Australia. It is part of the CAFL.
Joining the Sydney Swans
In 1997, Fred was chosen to join an AFL team. This happened during the 1997 AFL draft. The Sydney Swans picked him as their 40th choice. This was a big moment for Fred. Interestingly, the Swans also picked Adam Goodes just a few picks later. Adam Goodes became a very famous player. He won many awards and played over 350 games.
Fred played five games for the Sydney Swans. This was during the 1999 AFL season. After this season, Fred decided to leave the club. He wanted to go back home to Alice Springs.
Playing for St Kilda
Even after returning home, Fred still had a chance to play AFL. In the 2000 Pre-season draft, the St Kilda Football Club chose him. This gave him another opportunity to play at the highest level.
Fred played seven more games in the 2000 AFL season for St Kilda. After this season, he once again decided to return to Alice Springs. He finished his AFL career having played 12 games in total.
