Fred Charles Sands (born February 16, 1938 – died October 23, 2015) was an important American businessman. He was known for his work in real estate and for leading a company called Vintage Capital Group.

Growing Up

Fred Charles Sands was born in New York City on February 16, 1938. When he was seven years old, his family moved to Los Angeles, California. His father worked as a taxi driver.

Fred Sands went to Roosevelt High School. Later, he studied at the University of California, Los Angeles.

Business Career

In the 1960s, Fred Sands started his own real estate company. It was called Fred Sands Realtors. The main office was in Brentwood, Los Angeles. Over time, his company grew very big. It opened 65 offices across California.

In 2000, Fred Sands sold his company to another large real estate business, Coldwell Banker.

Vintage Capital Group

After selling his real estate company, Fred Sands led two investment companies. These were Vintage Capital Group and Vintage Real Estate. Both were based in Los Angeles.

Vintage Capital Group invested in many different types of businesses. Vintage Real Estate focused on buying and improving shopping centers. One of their projects is the SouthBay Pavilion in Carson, California. In the past, Fred Sands also owned radio stations and hotels.

Fred Sands was also the first real estate agent for Mulholland Estates. This is a special gated community in Los Angeles.

Helping the Arts

Fred Sands cared a lot about art and culture. He helped start the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles. He also served as the Vice Chairman on its board of trustees. This means he was a leader in helping the museum.

He was also on the board of trustees for the Los Angeles Opera. This group helps guide the opera company.

Government Appointments

Fred Sands was asked by President George W. Bush to join a special committee. This committee advised the President on the arts and worked with the Kennedy Center.

He was also chosen by Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger to be part of the California Arts Council. This council helps support art programs in California.

Family Life

Fred Sands married Carla Herd in 1998. They lived in Bel Air, Los Angeles and enjoyed collecting art. Fred Sands had two children, a son named Jonathan and a daughter named Alexandra.

Later Years

Fred Sands passed away on October 23, 2015, in Boston, Massachusetts. He was 77 years old. His funeral was held in Los Angeles, California.
